The Beach House at Bayside

By Franz Scheurer

Albany is a relaxing seaside town on Western Australia’s southern coast. It makes a good base for fishing, boating, whale watching, hiking, four-wheel driving and winery visits.  And in a new estate on the edge of town, a couple of minutes walk from the beach and golf course, is The Beach House at Bayside, which makes a very comfortable base for your stay in Albany.

The building is styled after a Tuscan villa, though very new and modern, the units are generously appointed (some with spa baths) and the included breakfast is terrific.

Wild Duck restaurant located in the old part of town (with some great historic buildings, this was WA’s first settlement) is Albany’s best (perhaps only) fine-diner. It’s BYO, which is great, as it’s situated opposite the biggest bottle shop I’ve ever seen, with a great wine selection including some local gems not often seen in the eastern states.
