Hilton Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is a bustling, tropical metropolis, the place where the Klang and the Gombak rivers meet, a haven for those who enjoy wonderful street food, chaotic traffic and superb open wet-markets. You could spend years in this town and not see it all and every single day would be exciting. Malaysia Airlines offers easy connections from major cities and, if you’re Australia based, it’s really close enough for a long weekend.
When you walk into the lobby of the Hilton Hotel the world instantly changes: cool, quiet and modern, it greets the weary traveller or sightseer, relaxing and soothing the senses, jarred by the city’s frenetic pace. The public part of the hotel is known as Studio, a one-stop dining and entertainment centre housing 5 restaurants and 2 bars within a dedicated 4-storey upwardly-spiralling dome. A blueprint for future Hilton’s around the world, Studio brings together an eclectic variety of cuisines and themes within one location. For a cutting-edge meal visit Senses, the restaurant modelled on the food and artistry of Cheong Liew. Kelly Brennan and Michael who run kitchen and front of house, spent years working with Cheong in Adelaide and, as the restaurant’s consultant chef, Liew makes regular visits.
The (admittedly small) bedrooms are ultra-modern so everything slides neatly out of site, and the designer bathrooms are certainly spacious. Views over the Klang River and cityscape are fabulous and the huge outdoor, freeform pool (with water slide) is a great place to spend a few lazy hours. Breakfast is another feature worth experiencing: in this truly multi-cultural city all types of cuisines seem to be represented, as you wander from station to station trying to choose between congee, patisserie, noodles, eggs, fresh fruit and more. The professional, helpful staff adds to the charm.
