Manly Ocean Beach House

By Franz Scheurer

Location, location, location! ManlyOceanBeachHouse can claim the perfect location, overlooking the beach and takes advantage of the vantage point with a clever design that maximises the view for the patrons and allows to open up the whole space to the breeze.

The interior is very northern European, with blonde wood, Ikea style chairs, a high-tech combustion heater and overhead heating lamps, very substantial, modern tables and the best looking salt and peppermills in town.

The atmosphere, however, is absolutely ‘beachy’ and the customers and staff all seem to be extras from Baywatch.

The hero however is the food. It is really very good. A ‘Parsnip, Macadamia Nut and Basil Oil Soup’ is hearty, tasty and satisfying without being cloying, the ‘Beer-Battered Fish & Chips, Mixed Salad, Home-Made Tartare Sauce’ uses flathead and the batter is thin and crisp and the ‘Chargrilled Beef Fillet, Roasted Field Mushrooms, Asparagus, Jus’ uses superb meat and is cooked perfectly to order. All the produce is excellent and the cooking is very competent.

Service is friendly and efficient and an intelligently put together and innovative wine and drinks list shows that someone here really cares.

Open for breakfast lunch and dinner this is one place where the food matches the view.
