Whare Kea Lodge & Chalet
Whare Kea, Maori for ‘the house of the kea’, is one of the most beautiful lodges in Australasia. Situated next to Rippon Vineyard on spectacular Lake Wanaka, it accommodates a maximum of twelve guests (no kids) in an isolated lake front setting with glorious views of snow-capped mountains. This is a superb venue with first class amenities: super comfortable beds, a magnificent view from the beautifully appointed rooms, Aesop toiletries in the bathrooms, wireless internet, plenty of space and friendly, helpful, professional staff. British chef, James Stapley, is one of the lodge’s greatest assets, he knows his produce, how to source it and how to cook it; his food alone makes a visit to Whare Kea Lodge worthwhile.
For total seclusion, lodge guests can take a helicopter up to Whare Kea Chalet, nestled in the Buchanan Mountain Range with views over Mount Cook and Mount Aspiring. An experienced mountain guide and Whare Kea staff member accompany guests to lead alpine walks and prepare meals. While not inexpensive, both the Lodge and Chalet offer incredible value for money.
